About St. Louis

St. Louis

Known as the Gateway to the West for its position at the start of the Oregon Trail, St. Louis will be your gateway to the biggest special and gifted education event of 2016—the CEC 2016 Special Education Convention & Expo.

With over 2.8 million people in the metropolitan area, St. Louis counts not just Missourians in its metro population, but 8 counties in Illinois as well. “The Lou” might be most famous for the Gateway Arch (right), but there’s plenty more to see and do. The city’s home to 3 professional sports teams (the puck-smashing Blues, the touchdown-driving Rams, and the seam-splitting Cardinals, whose stadium is only 9 blocks from the Convention Center and who will be at home while we’re in St. Louis) and 2 nationally-recognized research universities (Washington University in St. Louis and St. Louis University).

If you’re hungry for more than just amazing architecture, American history, or sporting events, don’t worry—there’s hundreds of restaurants featuring every kind of cuisine imaginable. Whichever restaurants you visit, make sure you try the gooey butter cake, a local classic since the 1930’s. Be sure to save some room for the great Box Lunch options available Thursday through Saturday of the convention!
