The 2022 CEC Convention will be a hybrid format, with both in-person programming (Orlando, FL | Jan. 16-19, 2022) and virtual program components (Feb. 1-4, 2022). You have the option of registering for the full convention (full in-person and virtual event access) or just the virtual component of the convention (access to virtual program content only).

General Sessions

Programming Types/Descriptions

  • What these sessions are: Presentations about a specific topic or concept. The session may be structured as a presentation with Q&A, a panel presentation, or an interactive presentation engaging participants in a specific activity. 

  • What these sessions focus on: A medium-level focus on a particular topic, with time built in for participants to ask questions. Focusing on a particular strategy or implementable take-away is encouraged. 

  • How long are these sessions: 60 minutes 

  • Where/when sessions will be presented: Either 1) in-person in Orlando as well as recorded for a virtual format or 2) recorded for the virtual portion of convention only.

  • What these sessions are: Sessions in which 2-4 proposals co-present on a common topic are followed by 10 minutes of Q&A. 

  • What these sessions focus on: A high-level focus on a particular aspect of a topic 

  • How long are these sessions: 60 minutes total, with each presenter having 12-25 minutes, depending on the number of presentations. 

  • Where/when sessions will be presented: Either 1) in-person in Orlando as well as recorded for a virtual format or 2) recorded for the virtual portion of convention only.

  • What these sessions are: An opportunity to share research projects and results. Poster sessions are a visual presentation with an opportunity for attendees to ask follow-up questions of the presenter. Presenters must: (1) prepare a poster exhibit of high quality that can stand alone in conveying information, and (2) attend the entire poster session and address questions from attendees.

  • What these sessions focus on: Research studies, program, or projects. These sessions are particularly appropriate for works in progress. 

  • How long are these sessions: In-person: 45 minutes of a presentation of the poster with the presenter there to answer questions. Virtual: Poster sessions recorded for virtual format will be limited to 15 minutes. 

  • Where/when sessions will be presented: Either 1) in-person in Orlando as well as recorded for a virtual format or 2) recorded for the virtual portion of convention only.

  • What these sessions are: An opportunity to share research projects and results, Data Blitz sessions are a series of short presentations in a 5-minute, rapid-fire format; delivered by up to 12 different presenters in succession on research topics spanning the field.

  • What these sessions focus on: Research studies, program, or projects. These sessions are particularly appropriate for works in progress.

  • How long are these sessions: 5 minutes per presenter as part of a 60 minute overall session 

  • Where/when sessions will be presented: Either 1) in-person in Orlando as well as recorded for a virtual format or 2) recorded for the virtual portion of convention only.

  • What these sessions are: A session of importance to the field that crosses or two or more of CEC’s traditional topic areas or does not fit into a traditional topic area.  

  • What these sessions focus on: Emerging and important issues in the field; topics that do not fit neatly into one topic area due to their broad focus (i.e. IEPs, distance learning, pandemic preparedness). 

  • How long are these sessions: 60 minutes 

  • Where/when sessions will be presented: Both in-person in Orlando as well as recorded for the virtual convention. 

  • What these sessions are: A fast-paced, dynamic session with multiple speakers; each presenter has 8-minutes to cover 8 slides on a single topic.  

  • What these sessions should focus on: Practical ideas for immediate use by classroom teachers. Topics may include but are not limited to the following: teaching tips, ideas for collaboration, engagement strategies, instructional strategies, class activities, lesson plans, assessment ideas, behavioral interventions, technology tips, etc. 

  • Who should submit this type of session: Classroom and school practitioners. These sessions are not intended for presentation by higher education professionals. The call for Teacher Slam proposals will open separately in early fall 2021. 

  • How long are these sessions: 60 minutes total, with each presenter having approximately 8 minutes. 

  • Where/when sessions will be presented: Either 1) in-person in Orlando as well as recorded for a virtual format or 2) recorded for the virtual portion of convention only 

  • What these sessions are: A new experience for 2022’s hybrid format, allowing all attendees to receive content expertise and allowing in-person attendees to engage with each other and the presenters for an interactive learning experience. Half of the session will focus on presentation of research and resulting implementable strategies, and in Orlando, the other half of the session will bring together facilitators and fellow attendees for discussions, roundtables, role-playing and other types of practice or experiential learning opportunities focused on enacting the research.

  • What these sessions focus on: A deep-dive on a particular topic or strategy, intent on making research content used and useful, with an emphasis on interactivity. 

  • How long are these sessions: 90 minutes, 45 minutes focused on research and strategies and 45 minutes focused on in-person interaction. 

  • Where/when sessions will be presented: Both in-person in Orlando (90 minute sessions) as well as recorded for virtual presentation (45 minute “content” presentation only)

  • What these sessions are: A half- or full-day deep dive into a particular topic, strategy, or idea. Please note: Convention workshops require an additional registration and are not included in general registration.

  • What these sessions focus on: Strategies and concepts participants can take away and use in their classroom, school, or university on Monday. An intentional focus on opportunities for attendee engagement is encouraged.  

  • How long are these sessions: 3 hours (half-day) or 6 hours (full-day) 

  • Where/when sessions will be presented: Both in-person in Orlando (half- and full-day) or presented live during the virtual portion of convention (3-hour workshops only)
