CEC2026: Rewriting the Story of Special Education
CEC’s 2026 Convention and Expo offers countless professional development and learning opportunities, hitting on the most pressing and important topics in the field. CEC 2026 will feature two topics area themes identified by our 2026 Program Chairs and our 2026 President: Innovative Access; Innovation Redefined and Beyond the Labels: Rewriting the Story of Special Education. These strands are intended to help you identify sessions relevant to some of the most important topics in special education.
“Beyond the Labels: Rewriting the Story of Special Education” is our PAC Co-Chairs’ theme. This theme is dedicated to exploring the necessity of shifting perspectives, challenging assumptions, and constructing new understandings across educational spaces. The focus is on recognizing the profound impact of narratives in shaping perceptions, guiding behaviors, influencing educational outcomes, and retaining special education professionals. By intentionally reframing these narratives, we can challenge stereotypes, foster inclusivity, and promote equity. This strand invites deep reflection on personal and professional experiences, empowering our community to share stories that lead to transformative change.
