What’s Happening at CEC 2026
The CEC Convention & Expo in Salt Lake City is gearing up to be a can't-miss event, filled with opportunities to learn, network, connect, and participate in group activities. With a full schedule, it can be overwhelming to figure out where to start. Here’s a summary of what’s happening and when, to help you plan.
Tuesday, March 10
Registration & CEC Hub Open (2:00 – 7:00 PM)
If you pre-registered, head directly to the “Badge Pickup” area. If you need to register, change your registration or badge, or add a pre- or post-convention workshop, head to a registration kiosk.
Check out the CEC Hub, where you can meet with CEC staff, win prizes, and pick up your new favorite shirt or publication in the CEC Store!
Pro Tip: If you arrive on Tuesday, pick up your badge before the crowds on Wednesday.
Wednesday, March 11
Registration and CEC Hub Open (7:00 AM - 6:30 PM)
Pre-Convention Workshops (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM; 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
Starting at 9:00 AM, pre-convention workshops are designed to provide an in-depth look at a particular topic. See our full list of half- and full-day workshops. Additional registration fees are required.
Pro Tip: Morning and full-day workshops start promptly at 9:00 AM, so ensure you’ve picked up your badge from registration ahead of time!
Sessions Begin (1:00 PM)
All concurrent sessions are included with your convention registration. Any session in the session browser that is not labeled as a workshop is open to attendees! Learn about the different types of sessions. Sessions are available on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Expo Open (1:00 – 5:00 PM)
The Expo Hall is open for adventure. Join over 200 exhibiting companies showcasing the latest programs, technology, products, and educational resources to enhance your classroom and boost your career.
Pro Tip: Don’t miss the Technology Playground, an interactive experience where you can explore the latest assistive and instructional technologies and get hands-on experience with new tools. Educators, experts, and others will share their knowledge and expertise.
Opening Keynote: Opportunity in the Shift: Honoring IDEA’s Legacy and the Future You’re Leading and Learning in the Age of AI (5:00 – 6:30 PM)
As we mark the 50th anniversary of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), we are called not only to honor its legacy but to reimagine what comes next. In this timely and strategic keynote, Dr. Jody Britten invites educators, administrators, and faculty to see disruption as a doorway—an opportunity to rethink what inclusion, innovation, and impact must look like in today’s classrooms and tomorrow’s workforce, especially with the rapid advancement of AI.
Opening Reception (6:30 - 8:30 PM)
Join us for an incredible evening on Wednesday, March 11 where you have the chance to connect with fellow attendees. This event is open to all attendees. More information coming shortly.
Thursday, March 12
The adventures continue with more sessions (8:00 AM - 3:15 PM), access to the Expo Hall (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM), and the CEC Hub (7:30 AM - 5:30 PM), plus:
Awards and Recognition Luncheon (11:30 AM – 1 PM)
Celebrate your amazing colleagues at this special event, which recognizes CEC National Award recipients, as well as honorees from Units and Special Interest Divisions. An additional ticket purchase is required.
Second Keynote Session: The Science of Happiness (4:00 – 5:00 PM)
In this thought-provoking and compelling keynote, Kim Strobel shares how we can reprogram our brains to become more positive and step into our power. When our happiness and well-being are at the forefront, employees are ten times more engaged, 31% more productive, and three times more creative.
Friday, March 13
Keep on learning with more sessions (8:00 AM - 3:15 PM), your last chance to visit the Expo Hall (8:00 AM – 1:00 PM), and the CEC Hub (7:30 AM – 4:00 PM), plus:
Yes I Can Awards Ceremony (3:30 - 4:30 PM)
Honor the achievements of 12 exceptional students who have been recognized for their successes in the areas of Academics, Arts, School & Community Activities, Self-Advocacy, Technology, or Transition.
CEC Celebration at Flanker Kitchen and Sporting Club (6:00 – 8:00 PM)
Get ready for an unforgettable night of fun and entertainment! We're bringing the energy with four unique experiences you won’t want to miss:
Belt it out at karaoke
Test your swing at the golf simulators
Hold on tight for bull riding in our country western speakeasy
Hit the dance floor with our live DJ spinning all night
Enjoy the provided food and drinks and get ready for nonstop excitement. Please note that this event requires a separate ticket.
Saturday, March 15
Finish your convention strong with our final rounds of sessions (8:00 - 11:30 AM) or a post-Convention workshop (8:30 - 11:30 AM; additional registration fee required).
