Frequently Asked Questions

On your smartphone

  • Open this page in your smartphone’s web browser, or search “Whova” in your app store.
  • Download the app, and search for the event “Council for Exceptional Children 2024.”

Make sure to use the email address you used when registering for convention. On the sign in page,

  • If you do not have a Whova account with the email address you used to register for CEC 2024, click “Sign up here” and create an account using the email address associated with your registration.
  • If you’ve already created your account or you have used Whova before with the email you used to register for CEC 2024, sign in. You will be taken straight to the convention app home page.

If Whova is asking you for a code, double check that you’re using the email address associated with your registration. If you’re still having trouble, email whova@exceptionalchildren.org to make sure you’re registered correctly.

In the Whova app, you can adjust the notification settings to receive only the types of notifications you want. Click on the profile icon in the top-left corner, click “Settings,” then click “Notification Settings.”

  1. Find the Agenda tab at the bottom of the screen. You should see a list of sessions for that day.
  2. You can move through different days by selecting the date you want to view on the calendar at the top of the agenda.
  3. Browse or search for sessions on the top bar.
  4. Filter sessions by topic/track.
  5. Once you find the session you want to access, click on it.
  6. Click “Add to My Agenda” to put the session on your own personal agenda and set a reminder.
    1. Pro tip: Creating your personal agenda also helps the planning team know which sessions need bigger rooms to accommodate more attendees!

  1. On the session detail page, click the “Q&A” button; on the next page, view the existing questions, vote on the questions you are interested in, or click “Ask a Question” to ask a new one.
  2. On the convention main page, click the “Session Q&A” button; find the session you want to ask questions in and click on it.
  3. Speakers can respond to questions following their session.
  4. Questions asked in the Q&A will remain even after the conference has ended (until June 30, 2024) so you can see answers to your questions.
  1. Once you find the session you want the slides/handouts for, click on it.
  2. Scroll down to the section titled “Handouts”. Any slides/handouts submitted by the presenter will be located here.
  3. Click on each document in the section to view them.
  4. If you want to email it to yourself or print it, click the Export button in the top right corner of the screen.
  1. To view other attendees: Click the “Attendees” tab on the bottom of the screen to browse the attendee list.
  2. At the top of the page, you can search attendees by keywords such as company, name, or title. In their professional profiles, you can take notes or request contact information.
  3. To find people with common backgrounds and interests, click the “Recommended” tab on the top of the Attendees list to find Whova’s recommendations about people you may be interested in networking with. Click into each item to see attendees who come from the same city or have the same affiliations, education background, or interests as you.
  4. Say “Hi” with one click or start a private chat by clicking the “Message” button. You can convert it to a private group chat by inviting more people.

  3. Post a message by typing into the space at the bottom of the screen.

  2. Create a new conversation topic or click a topic to join existing topics like “Meet-ups.”
  3. Click “Follow” directly next to the topics on the Community Board that you want to stay up to date with. To find the topics you’re following, choose between three tabs near the top of the page: All Topics, Followed, and New Topics.
  4. Check the Community board for conference updates and to ask questions.
  1. Under the “Additional Resources” section, click on “Exhibitors”.
  2. Navigate through the Exhibitor list and click on their “booth” to see their location in the Expo Hall.

Yes. You can opt out of the attendee list on the mobile app. Click the profile icon on the top left --> “Settings” --> “Profile Visibility” and turn it off. Note: once you go invisible, you can’t use some of the networking features anymore, such as browsing other attendees’ profiles or using the Exchange Contacts features, etc.
